According to police records, attacks on Asians in 16 of America’s largest cities increased by an astounding 164 percent in the first quarter of 2021.
During the first quarter of this year, police forces investigated 95 assaults on Asian Americans in 16 of the country’s most populated areas, up from 36 in the first quarter of 2020.
According to the FBI, anti-Asian hate crimes have been gradually increasing in recent years. However, Asian American activists claim that Trump’s repeated references to the coronavirus as the “China virus” and “Kung-flu” led to the surge in hate crimes during the pandemic.
